Oceana / Oceana County in West Michigan is a place you've never heard of before. Not a single stoplight in this town. Mom and Dad decided to grow old together here, just like my grandparents did. For the last 7 years, I traveled frequently from my home in Los Angeles to visit and assist my folks here. While on walks, I began photographing familiar landscapes and noting changes since I spent time here as a young person. The resulting images brought back a personal connection that had been missing after several years of living in California. An ongoing work, my series 'Oceana' uses memory as a blueprint, tracing the threads of my relationship to this location while also documenting my parents as they navigate the rewards and challenges of living a long life.
